Lord of the Flies post 2

Lord of the Flies
Chapter 2
“Fire on the Mountain”
Simon
FIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We came back from exploring and Ralph blew the conch again to tell others there was going to be another meeting. When everyone assembled Ralph talked about how there are no adults on the island and how we are going to have to take after ourselves. Jack brings up the pig in the jungle and how he says he will kill it next time. I shouldn’t say this since I’m part of his choir but I think he purposely missed that pig. Then Ralph says that he needs our choir to be the hunters. Part of me doesn’t want to be one of the hunters because I can’t find it in myself to kill. Then Ralph moves on to talking about when there are meetings whoever has the conch (the shell thing) has the right to be the talker and everyone else can’t interrupt, except him. Jack agrees with that idea. Then the fatty, whose name is piggy, started ranting on how the fact that we’re stuck here on the island and no one is going to come and rescue us. The whole group becomes silent and scared. Then one of the smaller children with a birthmark on his face comes up to speak. He gestures for the conch and every one laughs. Ralph does give it to him but the kid lost all his will to speak. Fatty went next to the boy and listened. Then fatty said that the kid saw a “beastie” in the forest that looked like a big snake. Everyone laughs at first but then they start to relies that there might be a “beastie”. The older boys including Ralph and Jack tell all the kids that it was probably just a nightmare. Then Ralph has an idea for when a boat comes by there should be a flame so that they could know were here. All the kids get excited and run up the mountain. Looking back fatty and Ralph take a slower pace. When we all get to the top Ralph tells everyone to get some wood. I don’t find a lot but when I get back the have tried to start a fire already. They use fatty’s glasses to make fire though. Of course fatty complains about it but he lets us use it. They manage to get a fire going but it quickly dies down. Fatty says that we need to act more proficiently but no one really cares. Jack volunteers us (his choir) to be in watch of the flame and for any boats on the horizon. We re-kindle the fire and it catches on a tree and blazes out of control. Fatty yells at our recklessness and how we need to be more careful. Then he tells us the kid with the birth mark on his face was playing down near where the burnt trees were. There is silence. No one talked about it but we all knew he was probably dead. Ralph looks ashamed and every one pretends it didn't happen.
