My LC book was called the Woman Warrior. It was about a Chinese American girl who reflected back on her life and told stories in the book. I was happy with my choice because it told me a bit more about my ancestry because my mom was from china. It was an interesting book to read because unlike any other of the lit circle books which had the character telling the story in chronological order, our book had a story for each chapter and the time periods jumped around. It was also not just about the author but her family. The whole book was in first person view but sometimes it was in a different persons view. I learned a lot about some of my group members because of the questions that we asked and answered on each other’s blog. Like, I learned that one of my group members was adopted as a child and raised in America when her parents were from Asia. I also learned from my LC book that people in china act a lot differently that people in America. When the author talks about her life in America compared to her mother’s life in china, there is a huge difference. I think that next time when we do the LC books by blog that we should add the vocab part into it. My group member, Katie, did that anyway even though we did not have to and it was interesting to see what words that she choose and see if I knew them already. I would prefer to do the LC books by blog because; for one, I like to type instead of hand write, mainly because my handwriting sucks. Secondly because then we do not waste class time doing something that we could do at home. And lastly because it is a lot easier to do, when I say that I mean that there are a lot of complications that could go wrong if it was not on the internet. Like, you could lose your vocab sheet and start all over again. I did not really have any problems with my blogging experience. I noticed that one of my group members and I had almost the same exact thoughts on the book. When we were commenting on each other’s blog we would almost always start out as, I totally agree with what you are saying.
What I did for my final painting was a book cover that on half of it had a scene from the book and on the bottom half; a picture, some quotes, and the title with the author. My process of choosing that was, first what I did for my two rough drafts; I did two book covers that weren’t really that good. One was the picture on the bottom of the final book cover but it was the full page and for the other one it was just the author and her family. Then what I did for the second draft is I took the picture from my first draft and made it a lot smaller and put it on the bottom. Then originally I had the title of the book with the author up in the corner but then I moved it to the bottom also. Then on the top half I decided to put a scene from the book that I thought was important. Then I noticed that the area was kind of blank around the picture so I put quotes on one side to tell a bit more about the picture from the book. Then on the right side I put a sword because the picture that I choose was a swords woman and I thought it just fit. I think that there was a definite connection between my art piece and my book. Everything that I did on the piece, directly fit into the book. I think that the final product of my painting turned out pretty good. I could have done a little better because I used oil pastels to color my painting in but paint would have been a better choice. I think that paint would have enhanced the quality of my painting because the oil pastels kind of rub together but paint is bold and stands out against each other. I learned that you can express a book onto a sheet of paper if you choose the right things with this art segment.
I think that the interview process was a bit difficult because the person that I choose didn't know how much time and effort on her part would be this project. I would have preferred a different person but my person was fine and I can finish the product of what she gave me to work with. I think that the three times and three ways of interviewing was fine. It is just a lot of people that signed up for it doesn’t know about what it is going to take of them. Something unique that I learned from the interviews is that the Philippines is not that bad of a country to live in. It is a lot like the United States mainly because the US influenced a lot of their politics. I think that having someone with the real life experience of immigrating helped me understand it a bit more but I could have still done fine without it.
