Chapter 10
The Shell and the Glass

Ralph and Piggy argue on the scar of the island. Ralph thinks that he helped killed me although he was on the outside of the circle. Piggy points that out and says that it was a mistake. Ralph thinks that it was murder and anything that Piggy wouldn’t matter. Sam n’ Eric comes out of the jungle with wood. They start talking and all of them deny ever being at the place where I died. At castle rock (where Jack made his camp), Jack rules with full power. There has to be a check for every one that enters the camp. If they don’t check out then a huge boulder will be pushed onto the victim crushing them. Roger and Maurice talk about how Jack is tying up random boys thinking that they have the “beast” in them. That is how he justifies killing me. People believe Jack with his idea that the beast can take any form. Right now there is a boy named Wilfred. Jack starts to warn them about Ralph and his small tribe. They say that Roger and Maurice should raid the Ralph’s camp to get the fire and go hunting tomorrow. Back at Ralph’s camp they try to light the fire over and over again. Ralph admits that they need the fire for the night not just the smoke. They try as hard as they can but it won’t light. They give up and decide they will try tomorrow morning. Then they all go to sleep. Ralph squirms during the night and I figure that he is having nightmares. They are awakened by Roger and Maurice’s howling. They think that it is the beast and try to stay still. They start calling out for piggy and he gets really scared. Roger and Maurice get into the tent were Ralph, Piggy, and Sam n’ Eric are sleeping. Piggy starts to have an asthma attack. He starts gasping for air in the corner. Eric starts to fight but he does not hit anyone. Sam and Ralph start going at it thinking there attacking either Roger or Maurice. Eventually Roger and Maurice give up and leave. Ralph brags how he hit one of them in the “groin area”. Then Sam says how he got hit there and then they relies that they were fighting each other and laugh. But then Piggy says out that they stole his glasses and relies that they are going to make a fire with it.
