“There isn't anyone to help you. Only me. And I'm the Beast . . . Fancy thinking the Beast was something you could hunt and kill!”
Lord of the Flies
Chapter 8
Gift for the darkness
Ralph
I could just lay down and die
Piggy kept asking me questions about the beast. I told him that I saw it with my own eyes and it does exist. He still does not think that the beast exists. Jack comes over and starts to rant on how he and his hunters will be able to kill the beast. I say that his hunters are just boys with sharp sticks. You could see that Jack was getting mad. He walked over to the platform and blew the conch to signify there was going to be a meeting. It was quieter and less like a horn then when I blew it. The people gathered. Jack started yakking on how he called this meeting for……. I point out that I should have blown the conch. He argues that since he blew that conch it was his meeting. I didn't care that much so I just let it go. Jack says there is a beast on the island blah blah blah. Well he starts calling me a coward when I get interesting in what he is saying. Since I ran away from the beast I am a coward. I was the one who suggested going up there and every one ran away. I said that even Jack ran away. Jack then says raise your hand if you don’t want me (Ralph) to be chief. Everyone was too scared to raise their hand. Jack’s face turned red. He got mad and stormed off into the forest. He yelled back that anyone that wanted to join him to follow him. No one followed him right there. I shocked that Jack actually left. Piggy was thrilled. He started to get more confident. He started to talk about his ideas without doubt of someone saying that it was stupid. I was still getting over the fact that jack was actually gone. I started noticing that some of the older boys were disappearing. I guessed they went to Jack’s camp. I decided that we need a fire and Piggy suggested that we have a fire on the beach. It was a nice idea since the beast was on the mountain. Later that day Jack’s group raided our camp for some fire. I didn't care anymore. I just wanted to get off this island. For all I cared I could lay down a die.
